The Today I would like to share Brother Ronny Wade's presentation on the life of Roy Cogdill and his impact on the Restoration movement. Roy Cogdill was one of the main opponents to the innovation of institutionalism among the cups and class brethren. The battle over institutionalism reached its peak in the late 50's and carried on through the 70's. Though many of our brethren are not familiar with the history of the institutional battle, it was a major issue in the history of the church. I would urge brethren to watch Brother Ronny's presentation and heed the words of warning that he issues in his closing statements.
As a side note, Brother Ronny mentions several books in his presentation that were written by Roy Cogdill. These books are listed as follows and are available in our bookstore:
The New Testament Church
Walking by Faith
Faith and The Faith
The Cogdill Woods Debate
The Arlington Meeting
The Institutionalism Study Pack
Our Hebrews Study this week tackles a difficult passage found in Hebrews 5:12-6:3. Hebrews 6:1-2 reads, "Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment."
Question: Are these verses speaking of Old Testament or New Testament doctrines that must be "left" in order to "go on to perfection"?
We have attached an audio version of this week's presentation along with a full sermon covering Hebrews 5:11-Hebrews 6:9.
This week's installment of our Hebrews Study covers Hebrews 4:14-5:11. Our section of study marks an important shift in the book as the High Priesthood of Christ comes into focus. May we never overlook the blessings that come through our Great High Priest who shared our nature.
Below you will also find an audio version of the study. If you missed las week's episode you can find it HERE.
