A Common Origin
As recently as World War II the Red Cross held to the belief that different races of humans had different types of blood (Ashley Montagu, Human Heredity, p.58). The idea was that white people’s blood should not be given to a black person, nor should a black person’s blood be given to an oriental person. We now know that human that though there are different blood types, human blood is human blood regardless if the racial background of the person through whose veins it flows.
The Bible, as is often the case, was far ahead of science regarding the understanding of human blood. When Paul declares the Christian God to the crowd in Athens (Acts 17:26) he declares, “… he (God) made of one every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth.” “Ex henos” is the Greek phrase translated “of on” in this passage and literally means “out of one male.” Paul was arguing that all mankind originated from one man – Adam – and that we are all thus alike and related.
Points of Application:
1- Racism is foolish on every level, especially a theological level. God made man equal and restored that equality in Christ (Eph. 2:14-18).
2- Those who hold to the false doctrine of Theistic Evolution are met at every turn with passages of Scripture that must be either ignore or denounce in order to justify an unproven claim. May we heed the words of Paul: “Let God be true and every man a liar.” (Romans 3:4)
