The following is a review of a written debate that took place in 1995. We have had this debate reprinted for the first time and it is available in our book store.
Richland Hills and Instrumental Music: A Plea To Reconsider by Dave Miller Reviewed by Nathan Battey In 2006 the North Richland Hills Church of Christ near Ft. Worth, TX introduced instrumental music into their worship services by hosting a contemporary Saturday evening service. In an effort to get his brethren to reconsider their position Dave Miller wrote this book and sent copies of it all across the nation. I implore my readers to download a copy of this work below and study the issue carefully. Dave Miller does an outstanding job answering all of the questions modern innovators are raising in favor of bringing instrumental music into the Lord's church. If the reader considers the the Biblical answers to these modern arguments carefully, he will learn many truths that will aid him in defending against this and other forms of digression. May we take pause to consider this vital subject in light of the truth of God's Word. I present the preface below to wet your appetite and hopefully cause you to investigate further. New Testament Questions by E. M. Zerr A Review by Nathan Battey Many are familiar with Zerr's Commentary (a classical commentary among Church of Christ circles offering incite from a layman's perspective) yet few have probably ever heard of this work. I was personally ignorant of its existence until a few days ago when I stumbled upon it. So, allow me to introduce you to a helpful study tool. Oh, by the way, it is free. The subtitle of the book tells about all you need to know: "Sixteen Thousand Questions on the New Testament Arranged as a Study Course." For every chapter of the New Testament Brother Zerr as anywhere from twenty to one hundred questions for you to answer in lieu of the text. I highly encourage everyone to download a copy and (for free) and set time aside each day to read a chapter of the New Testament and answer the question herein provided. I am confident you will be made aware of things you never knew, and retain what you read at a higher level. Be sure to download a copy and share it with others.
Clothed With Power by Gary Cage Reviewed by Nathan Battey This work represents a condensed version of Cage’s original work ‘The Holy Spirit: A Sourcebook With Commentary.” When I placed an order with him last week for his Sourcebook, he mentioned he had written an abridged edition at the recommendation of his brethren. His brethren felt he had done an excellent work, but that few would utilize such a large work to it’s full potential and that he should thus consider writing an abridged version that addressed the heart of the issue. |
