The reader is enthralled with the struggles of Michael and John, the two main characters of the story, their downward spiral, discouragement, and depression. Mr. Shank sets forth the hard facts of how sin enters and the horrifying danger it brings. One can sense the utter hopelessness and despair as John's life spins out of control. Further one can sense the dichotomy of personalities as these two characters tread the road of shame caused by sin and rebellion. From extreme zeal to discouragement and disappointment because of fellow Christians lack of zeal, to drinking, marital unfaithfulness, drugs and greed until at the end of his rope Michael comes to himself.
WHEN SHOVELS BREAK, is a book written as a sequel to MUSCLE AND A SHOVEL, both by Michael J. Shank. It is a story that takes us more personally into the journey of faith that began in MUSCLE AND A SHOVEL. The following contains my opinion and recommendations about the book.

The Empty Tomb and Risen Lord by C. C. Dobson We are excited to have this two part series on the resurrection of Jesus back in print and available to our customers. C. C. Dobson does a masterful job recounting the events of both Jesus resurrection and his appearances, while bringing out details often overlooked and shedding light on some of the difficulties presented in the texts. Here are some exciting you will discover by reading this series: 1- At who’s house was the Last Supper probably eaten? 2- Who might the young man be that fled naked from the garden of Gethsemane? 3- Why did John stoop to look into the tomb while Peter rushed inside? 4- How was the body of the Lord prepared for burial and why is this significant? 5- What was it about the clothes that convinced Peter and John that Jesus was indeed resurrected? 6- Why was the location of the Last supper kept a secret? 7- Was Jesus buried in a common grave? 8- Was the stone at the mouth of the tomb moved aside or taken away? 9- Why did the angel sit on the stone after it had been moved? 10-In what way were the lives of the apostles forever changed by the resurrection? These and many other thrilling details are discussed throughout both volumes. The Empty Tomb contains the following chapters: The Importance of the Resurrection The Exact Cause of Christ's Death The Entombment The Movement of the Disciples The Miracle of the Stone The Tomb: Its Form and Construction The Visit of the Women The Visit of St. Peter and St. John Mary and the Master at the Tomb Our Lord's Resurrection Body The Risen Lord contains the following chapters: The Early Hours of the Ressuresction Morning The Apearance to the Women The Walk to Emmaus THe Appearance to Peter The Upper Chamber Thomas and the Master The Early Morning on the Lake The Miracle of the Broiled Fish Breakfast at the Lakeside The Mountain of Galilee The Ascension Both of these volumes came highly recommended by Brother Richard Bunner and Brother George Battey. Unfortunately, upon receiving their recommendation, I was unable to find a copy of either book for quite some time. So, after a long while, I have managed to get them back in print and hope they will both thrill and educate readers once more.
